With summer officially here, it’s time for women who want to look their best this season to find just the right bathing suit for their figure.   DailyVenusDiva.com (DVD), voted the #1 Plus-Size Lifestyle Magazine at the 2011 Full Figure Fashion Week Awards, is pleased to announce that we will be presenting a two-hour flash sale on July 1, 2011 in conjunction with the number one source for women's swimwear sizes 8 & up online, SwimsuitsForAll.com.

Diva Deal Finder, Janie Mackenzie-Cohen says, “Budgets are incredibly tight this season. Women need to look and feel their best, but not spend all of their vacation money to do so! That’s why all of us at Daily Venus Diva are thrilled we are able to work with SwimsuitsForAll to offer our readers, and all curvy women out there, an opportunity to save their hard-earned money, but still be able to look like a rock-star in just the right suit for them.”

SwimsuitsForAll offers swimwear in sizes 8 – 24, and has a large variety of styles of suits, cover-ups and swimdresses.  They also offer a unique “Fit and Flatter” guide which by simply “inputting your size, body type, problem areas, and style preferences,” shoppers can “generate a list of available swimsuits that are perfect to fit & flatter” their unique body & style. It's like having your own online personal shopper!

The sale, which will offer consumers the opportunity to purchase a $30 voucher for $15 to be used through SwimsuitsForAll’s online store, will run on Friday, July 1, 2011 from noon EST through 2 pm EST.  There will only be 100 certificates available for purchase. http://deals.dailyvenusdiva.com/

Frugal Fatshionista Friday: Forever 21+ under $25!!

While I was shopping for Full Figured Fashion Week I came across this little number. It is easy breezy for summer, cotton, light and bold all things I like to be! Well I don't know if I like to be cotton since I have NO idea how that would work... Anywho, the dress is from Forever21+ and can be found here for $22.80. The shoes are Steve Madden found (as a giveaway not stolen :))on the streets of Park Slope, Brooklyn circa 2008! (Don't worry they've been thoroughly disinfected and cleaned!!) I liked the idea of pairing this with yellow peep toe pumps to really punch up the boldness factor. I hope you like it!! (Apologies for the photo quality! I need a new camera... stuck with the phone cam for now!)

Curves at Sea: Full Figured Fashion Week Kicks Off!

Off to the fffweek White on White cruise! So excited! Will update later!

Update! Curves at Sea for Full Figured Fashion Week was a total success! Since I was attending on my own, I was a little nervous but I'm not shy so I introduced myself around and had a fabulous time! A couple of lovely girls even asked to take a picture with me on the dance floor (presumably because I was one of a handful of white girls dancing... Girls: Weather you think so or not you CAN dance and even if you look like an idiot its fun so do it anyway :) )

There were quite a few curvalicious divas there last night, and even a few guys, the boat was full and everyone was having a great time! I was especially impressed to see that not one white outfit was duplicated and everyone was rocking their white with confidence and power! Moral of the story ladies? Don't be afraid of white!!

It was great to meet some of my favorite fashion bloggers and personalities: The Curvy Fashionista, Curves and Chaos, Chic in Every City, T Minus T Plus, Lips, Hips, and Fashion Tips, Curvy Girl Chic. As well as my colleagues from Venus Diva Magazine! I also ran into an old singing buddy who is now on the marketing staff at Ashley Stewart! All in all a wonderful night and I cant wait for Saturday's runway show!

New Weekly Post: Frugal Fatshionista Friday! - Sonsi Full Figured Fashion Week Edition

I don't know about you, but I'm young, curvy, and broke! BUT that doesnt mean I don't want to look like the sexy fierce woman that I am. We all know that finding great clothes when you're voluptuous is difficult but finding CHEAP, nice clothes is even harder. SO without further ado I usher in Frugal Fatshionista Friday. Now I dont claim to be a stylist I jst like what I like so hopefully one or two of you will too!

Normally I will try to keep the looks under $100 but with Sonsi's Full Figured Fashion Week less than a week away I thought I would put together a look I would LOVE to wear to the White on White Cruise that kicks off the weekend on June 16, 2011. So I upped the ante just a little to $200.

This look is inspired by Salma Hayek's flirty white cocktail dress above!

For the Dress we turn to Macy's, who sadly make it impossible to copy and paste pics so you'll have to click through to see this gorgeous little Suzi Chin number! It retails for $148 but right now use code SUMMER and save 15% making it $126!

Now for the sassy red accents! Pumps from Target for $22.99 and belt from Torrid for $22.50

And the final touch, a pair of textured hoops from Forever 21 for $3.80!!

Now if only I'd discovered these gems 2 weeks ago we'd be in business! Lemme know what you think or maybe what you're wearing Thursday night so I can be on the lookout! :)

What a Loser!

So I posted yesterday about Weight Watchers and how I am moonlighting as a vegetarian for the month of June, (which caused QUITE a debate on my Facebook page for some reason!) and I want to give a quick update! I started this vegetarian journey on June 1, 2011 and after today's WW weigh in I lost 9.4 lbs!!!! Now I wouldnt normally post this kind of thing on this blog, I can brag about my efforts on Facebook if I want BUT, I thought yesterday's post needed some follow-up.

Now I'm sure JUST going veg wasn't the only factor here, I did step up my activity, ran/walked/biked etc. and it was the pre-"Time of the Month" week, and I cooked all my meals and didn't drink. I also had a Twix at one point and a couple of Ice Cream cones as well!

The point is deprivation is not required for weight loss! I've lost 35 lbs. in the past 6 months! (See the post Audition Dresses for a before photo)

After Photo (haven't been able to wear this dress in 6 years!) - apologies for the picture quality

This is Your Brain on Veggies...

As some of you may know I have been on Weight Watchers for the past 6 months (ok on and off for 15 years but lets not beleaguer THAT point) I'm not afraid to admit that though I LOVE my curves and would want to have them at ANY size, I wouldn't mind reducing a little. That said, in the first 4 months on the new PointsPlus program I lost 30 lbs! Then had a bit of a breakup and have been plateauing for the past 2 months...

So in an effort to regroup, reset, and resize I decided to try going vegetarian for the month of June! I was inspired by a tweet by GOOD which dared anyone to try going vegetarian for the month.

It isnt really as hard as it seems (Im not trying to go vegan... I'd never survive!) And, aside from getting rid of 3 links of chicken sausage, I havent had any meat this month. Yes, I am aware that it is only 6 days in... But I have already lost the 8 lbs I gained last week and have saved money to boot!

On a vegan note however I am looking forward to getting rid of some aging bananas in my fridge with this recipe for Vegan Banana Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies by my friends over at Sunday Treats!

Have you ever tried going veg? What were your experiences? Any favorite websites/tips?

PS here are some crowd sourced tips from the people over at GOOD

Wellness Wednesday - Relationship Success failing because of Personal Success??

I read this blog post today and it got me to thinking. The author poses that women, in their quest for Daddy's love as little girls, feel the need to succeed professionally, masculinely instead of loving themselves in all their "feminine" glory. His point ultimately is that you should be happy with who you are instead of looking for outside validation. I'm not sure I agree with his reasoning though...

As a girl I was often successful at things I wanted to do, school, singing, modeling, etc. but I dont think that made my Daddy love me any more and I sure as heck didnt do it for his recognition. In fact coming from a family in which success is rare, I actually think my acheivements, though they appreciated them, created a wall between me and my family. They had a difficult time relating to me.

In romantic relationships I feel like sometimes success, female success, is intimidating to men rather than enticing. Now I am not advocating dumbing oneself down for approval, far from it! I just disagree that we are spending so much time focused on personal successes rather than accepting ourselves. I am quite the advocate for living in the moment, but it is NEVER wrong to strive to better yourself and make forward strides.

If the author's point is that you are enough NOW and you do not NEED to be anything more than what you are right now to be loved, that you should not wait until some future date of perfection to put yourself out there, then I whole heartedly agree. But the idea that we are successful JUST to find love puts me off a bit...

What do you think??
